Sydney Hotel

For a fun weekend getaway, it’s hard to think of a more appealing destination than Sydney, Australia. From its green city parks to beautiful beaches, there are plenty of attractions to keep visitors entertained. And when it comes to accommodations, it’s easy to see why Sydney is as well-known for its glamorous hotels as its iconic Opera House.

When it comes to hotels, there are options available for all budgets. The Shangri-La Hotel, the Observatory Hotel by Orient Express and the Park Hyatt Sydney are among the best accommodation Sydney has to offer. Most mid-priced chains, including Novotel and Sheraton, can also be found in Sydney, along with a relatively high number of hostels and low-budget lodging options.

For sightseeing travelers, a weekend in Sydney would not be complete without a walk through the Royal Botanic Gardens. With plants and flowers from all over the world, the gardens offer a peaceful escape from the bustling city. The opera house sits just north of the Gardens on Sydney Cove, and the views of the stretching “wings” of the opera house are especially nice from the waterfront walkway.

Another excellent attraction is the historic Rocks and Quays district of Sydney. The site of the first rough-and-tumble settlers from Great Britain, today the Rocks and Circular Quay is a winding maze of historic pubs, small museums, gift shops and lively restaurants. Simply wandering through this neighborhood will leave visitors feeling as though they’ve gone back in time, to the early days of Sydney’s founding and settlement by the questionable characters (that is, prisoners) of Great Britain.

For family-friendly tourist attractions, the Darling Harbour area is a must. This bustling waterfront offers the mammoth Sydney Aquarium, the Australian National Maritime Museum and seemingly endless restaurants and souvenir shops.

For more adventuresome travelers, the allure of climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge may be too much to resist. Tourism companies offer safe, supervised climbing expeditions to the top of the “Coat Hanger”, as locals call the iron bridge.

Whether looking for peaceful gardens, historic landmarks, kid-friendly activities or thrill-seeking adventure, Sydney offers plenty of fun for a weekend away.
