Favorite QLD destinations

Brisbane is a sophisticated and dynamic city that still has its pioneer innovative edge. It has a world class night life without pretension. It is a good starting point from which to enjoy all the outdoor adventures Queensland has to offer. In Brisbane itself there is hot-air ballooning, surfing, sailing and kayaking on the Brisbane River and 4WD excursions to the cool mountain rainforests in the west or to the sunny beaches in the east.

AU-CultureQueensland’s Outback is a travel destination for those looking for a rugged experience in unspoilt nature. This is the vast outdoors that Australia is famous for. Riding river rapids, exploring wetlands for rare birds, surmounting sand dunes in the infamous Australian desert or climbing rocky outcrops are all adventures you will find in the Queensland Outback.

The Fraser Coast with the World Heritage Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world, is an experience that takes you back to a time when the world was new. Unchanged since Europeans first stepped on Australian land, it has amazingly coloured sands, towering rainforests and freshwater lakes. Nearby there is Hervey Bay where you can come very close to humpback whales in the wild reserve while they play and enjoy the warm waters.

The Tropical North Queensland offers an experience in paradise. The Great Barrier Reef with its shining coral and fantastic fish of every colour and design along with World Heritage listed tropical rainforests that are right nearby. The Daintree River offers rainforests with cruises for bird watching and crocodile spotting. The Cape York Peninsula is rugged and empty wilderness that is unique in the world. There are ancient Aboriginal cultural sites, fast moving rivers and remote camping and lodges.

The Southern Down is a good travel destination for those looking for a more relaxing experience. Rich in the pioneer history of Australia there are vineyard and orchards with fantastic local farmers markets. There is also gentle wilderness in the Girraween National Park for exhilarating bushwalking in the dramatic landscape and the beautiful gardens of Warwick and Stanthorpe full of bright colours in the season. (photo: Tourism Australia)
